We
invite you to visit Great Bend,
Kansas where you will find natural
beauty, small-town charm, history, culture, and a wide variety of
activities and attractions.
Trail of Lights - after dark our
step-on-guide will join us and travel through the 15 miles of city parks
and neighborhoods climaxing at Fantasy Village where holiday displays
are presented in warmed buildings. The young-at heart can ride a
miniature train, feed reindeer, or warm themselves by a roaring log
fire. Everyone will be treated to a warm drink in "The Cider
Shop".
'The Cathedral of the Plains'
in Victoria was built by Volga-German immigrants at the turn of the
century. This catholic church was so named by William Jennings Bryan as
he was traveling the area in his quest for the presidency. Although
bearing an English name, Victoria was settled by Volga Germans. The
heritage and industrious workmanship are exhibited in the magnificent
Romanesque church's twin towers that soar 140 feet above the surrounding
plains.
Christmas Craft Mall -
the Mall brings artists and crafts people from all over the area to set
up shop and offer one-of-a-kind shopping. Located in the historic
downtown area, a stop here also affords an opportunity to visit the many
nearby unique shops.
The hillsides through which we will be
traveling en route to Great Bend will be dotted with limestone
fence posts - the only place on earth where these types of
structures exist. The absence of growing trees created the need for such
stone to be used in this way, as well as the construction of homes and
churches. |
