The holiday season is a special time of the year, and Governor is
proud to host the
Annual Christmas at the Capitol. The theme for this year is "The
Sparkle of Christmas."
This year's celebration highlights 90 plus trees
decorated by businesses, nonprofit organizations, communities, and
governmental offices from throughout the state.
See a
forest of beautiful Christmas Trees under a canopy of snowflakes and
stars. Twinkling lights and
red poinsettias stand out against a background of white marble,
as the SD Capitol becomes a wonderland. Tour of the Memorials and the State
Capitol.
Cultural
Heritage Center - This
unique, earth-mounded building is an official site along the Lewis & Clark
National Historic Trail and was recently named Best State History Museum along
the Trail. A recent attraction is an original Jefferson Peace Medal.
Step-on
Guided tour of Historic Pierre/Fort Pierre which
includes the Verendrye Monument, Lilly Park where Lewis and Clark had their
first encounter with the Teton Sioux, Fort Pierre Chouteau, Oahe Dam and Farm
Island

National Guard Museum is
one of only twenty authorized National Guard museums in the nation: this
facility houses a Sherman tank from World War II, General George Custer1s sword,
and military memorabilia & history from 1862 to the present.
