Your first day in Alaska immerses you in the area's history. Feel the frontier-friendly atmosphere of Fairbanks on a leisurely cruise down the Tanana River aboard the sternwheeler "Riverboat Discovery". Highlights include a visit to the Chena Indian village and the home of Susan Butcher, three-time Iditarod dog sled race winner. We'll even see an Alaskan bush pilot in action. Later, explore the El Dorado Gold Mine for a ride aboard the Tanana Valley Railroad and back into the days of the gold rush. Journey through a permafrost tunnel. Then take a walking tour of a mining camp. Your luck is sure to pan out during your "hands on" adventure as you pan for gold. The evening is free, so enjoy!

See spectacular views as your Princess ship cruises through pristine Glacier Bay National Park. Watch for marine life, including humpback whales, sea otters, porpoises and harbor seals.

DAY 8                        SKAGWAY (PORT OF CALL)
Arrive in Skagway, once the gateway to the gold fields. Memories of the gold rush are everywhere. The downtown Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park District is filled with local lore. Explore it on foot or by streetcar with a costumed conductor who will weave spellbinding tales of Skagway's cast of colorful characters.
The Klondike National Historical Park commemorates the place where the prospectors first arrived, gathered their supplies and headed over the Chilkoot or White Pass Route to find fortune in the gold fields. You can follow their lead aboard the vintage White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad or browse the shops and saloons in town.

DAY 9                        JUNEAU (PORT OF CALL)
Journey back in time to the spot where Joe Juneau and Dick Harris found "streaks running through the rocks and little lumps as large as peas or beans." The gold didn't last, but Mendenhall Glacier and the attractions of frontier Juneau continue to draw adventurers from around the world. This is the capital of the state of Alaska and is a fascinating place to explore. Sightsee and shop in town or choose from a wide array of optional shore excursions.

DAY 10                        KETCHIKAN (PORT OF CALL)
Southeast Alaska's "First City", Ketchikan is as picturesque as they come. The town is built on piles out over the water and clings to the slopes of Deer Mountain. Native culture abounds at Saxman Village and Totem Bight State Park. Stroll down historic Creek Street to Dolly's House. Or venture outside town to see a forest of hand-carved totem poles. Ketchikan, built out over the water and set amidst the country's largest national forest, is also your gateway to Misty Fjords National Monument via floatplane if you choose that optional excursion.
