Day One includes - Rushmore - Crazy Horse - Bear County
After an over night stay in Rapid City, the bus will pick up everyone in the
morning to begin this adventure. Hot coffee, orange juice, and fresh
baked muffin will be served on the motorcoach in the morning. First stop is Bear Country - a drive-thru wildlife park featuring bear,
buffalo, moose, wolves, bighorn.
Crazy Horse Monument - The face of Lakota leader, Crazy Horse, is emerging
as the fifth granite face in the Black Hills on the world's largest mountain
carving. Crazy Horse Memorial begun by Korczak Ziolkowski
to honor Chief Crazy Horse and all American Indians. Upon completion, the
figure of the chief astride his pony will be 563 feet high and 641 feet long.
The face of Lakota leader, Crazy Horse, is emerging as the fifth granite face
in the Black Hills on the world's largest mountain carving. The family of the
late sculptor continues the Crazy Horse dream.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial - The massive granite sculpture
memorializes four American presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, &
Theodore Roosevelt.
Dinner is included today at the Rushmore Cafeteria before
the Lighting Ceremony.
Mount Rushmore Sculpture Lighting Ceremony - This evening we'll catch a
glimpses of the "faces of the four Presidents" under brilliant
lights - it is wonderful.
Day Two includes - Deadwood - Keystone - Train Ride
Continental Breakfast is included at the hotel before we start the day.
Keystone - this old western community was established as a mining town
soon after an expedition led by Lt. Col. George Custer discovered gold nearby
in 1874.
Black Hills Central Railroad - 1880 Train, with old-time steam
locomotives and vintage cars. Our travels will take us back in time and
through the Black Hills back country.
Spearfish Canyon Scenic Highway - includes Roughlock Falls and The
Thoen Stone Monument which commemorates the Ezra Kind party, killed by Indians
over a gold discovery.
Historic Deadwood - has only one main street - all that space
permits on the floor of Deadwood gulch. The rest of the town clings to the
steep sides of the canyon. Today with casino gambling and abundant night life,
Deadwood is strongly reminiscent of the wild frontier and mining days of the
past. Wild Bill Hickok was shot and killed in Deadwood during a poker game in
Saloon #10.
Mount Moriah Cemetery - High above historic Deadwood Gulch is one of
the Old West's original "Boot Hills." Guided tour includes grave
sites of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.
Overnight in Deadwood - Dinner and entertainment (on your own) at any of the
establishments in downtown Deadwood.
Day Three includes - Gold Mine - Custer State Park
Continental Breakfast at the hotel before we start the day.
Homestake
Gold Mine Surface Tour - this gold mine in Deadwood, discovered in 1876,
is the largest operating underground mine in the western hemisphere.
Lunch is
at your own expense as we travel from the Deadwood area.
Custer State Park - a driving tour of this 73,000 acre world-class park
featuring spectacular geological formations, scenic drives, and one of the
nation's largest bison herds.
