Schedule - Day One
Arrive in
Nebraska. Pickup at the airport and drive to Kearney, Nebraska. We should
have time to dive around and find Sandhill Cranes feeding before they head for
the river. Check into our hotel and get ready for some evening crane watching.
Depart our hotel and drive to our blinds for the evening's viewing of the
Sandhill Cranes. This is an unbelievable sight as we view from river's edge
the Cranes settling in for the evening. Expert staff will help provide
additional information on the Cranes and explain this part of their journey.
Dinner is included this evening when we get back to our hotel.
Tour
Schedule - Day Two
Today we depart early from the hotel for a chance to get a close look at
Nebraska Prairie Chickens on their booming grounds. We have blind space
reserved so we should be pretty close to the birds. After the Chickens we will
continue on to the Rainwater Basin area to find geese and other bird species in the area.
After lunch (included) we will go back to bird watching. Our naturalist will escort us on a driving tour to see the Sandhill Cranes,
geese and other birds out in the
fields feeding. The crane is the oldest living bird species. It has inhabited
the earth for about sixty million years, facing and surviving every
conceivable hardship. Cranes are the exotic dancers of the bird kingdom. Their
gyrations have been compared to the antics of fervent pioneer preachers
leading their congregations. Our tour to Nebraska will give us a glimpse of
these majestic birds, as they make their long journey north.
Return to our hotel for some free time before
going out for dinner (included).

time.

going to take a break from our Crane watching and catch the Spirit of America
at The Great Platte River
Road Archway Monument. The Archway marks the spot where the
Oregon Trail, California Trail and Mormon Trail all converged in the
Western movement that linked America
coast to coast.
Lunch
is included at The Alley Rose - delicious food in an elegant surroundings
After lunch our naturalist will continue on to explore
different habitats for additional species of birds this afternoon. This
environment supports the greatest birding diversity in the Midwest: 475
species travel through, 330 spend significant time, and 120 species nest in
the area.
